How to Remember Better - Easy Memory Improvement Techniques

Wow...The stuff I have been learning about memory improvement must be working because I now remember to update my blog at least once every once in a while :)
All kidding aside, with the exception of a physical or mental impairment, we are all born with a good memory, we just haven't learned how to use it properly.
Your memory is based on visual images and you remember the connection between those images and not the actual information itself. Sounds crazy, but it is true and can be learned using a few easy memory improvement techniques.
First however, you should build a solid foundation for a better memory. A healthy body works better, and a healthy mind remembers more! Exercise, get adequate sleep, and eat right if you want to remember better.
Your memory like any other part of your body requires these 3 things to operate at it's maximum capability. These lifestyle basics are essential to maintaining and improving your memory.
You can also force yourself to remember better by cheating a little - write it down! A post-it note may be the only thing between you and a better memory. Get out a pencil and paper and write things down. The simple effort of writing it down will help you remember better. You will remember appointments better, more of the grocery list will be in your head, you will remember everything you write down that much better! Just don't forget where you put your post-it notes.
You can also remember better by adding the right vitamins to your diet. Think green and orange. At least one serving a day of Beta Carotene (dark green veggies and orange fruits and veggies) can help with memory recall, especially if you are over the age of 60.
A good diet in general will help you remember better. A good diet includes foods high in antioxidants, high in dietary fiber, and healthy sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. To help kids remember better at school, minimize the carbs such as cold cereal or pop tarts, cut out the junk food (empty calories) and consider adding more protein to their diet instead. Eggs and toast for instance may improve not only memory, but also their ability to concentrate in class. Yogurt shakes made with soy protein powder can also give kids and adults that extra boost to keep their minds working at peak capacity.
When you are studying it also helps to review information at regular intervals. Recall and review the information in the following intervals for maximum long-term recall:
* 10 minutes * 24 hours * 1 week * 1 month * 6 months * 1 year
If you do this consistently, you will remember much more information than you would have otherwise remembered.
