Old Hag Syndrome

The old hag syndrome is one of the most common psychological problems. The victims who suffer from this problem suddenly wake up and feel that they can not move. They can hear, smell, see as well as feel but are not able to move.
Some of the victims also feel a great weight on their chest. Some of them start to believe that there is an evil or sinister presence in the room. This further frightens them and increases their immobility. The phenomenon is called so because of the superstitious belief that it is or a witch is riding the chest of the victim in such a case, causing them to be immobile.
This superstitious explanation is not taken very seriously now days. Still the frightening nature of the syndrome has led to the belief that the supernatural forces are behind it. Some of its victims also feel some strange smell, sound of approaching footsteps, some apparitions along with the weight on the chest. They are also not able to breathe easily. Senses of the body tells the victim that they are experiencing something supernatural and unusual is happening to them.
The truth is there are no ghouls, demons, witches or old hags at work. The old hag syndrome has been found to be a part of the problem of sleep paralysis. The problem causes the victims to paralyze in sleep. As far as the weird feelings are concerned, they can be accredited to the confused state of the brain. The overheard stories of the superstitious beliefs also add to the problem.
This syndrome is a medical problem. The victims require the right treatment so that the problem can be tackled within time, in the right way, to help avoid any further complications.
