Yeast Infections For Everyone - Why Should Only Women Have All the Fun?

Healthy individuals need not fear a yeast infection, aka Candida, as it is typically not serious enough to affect overall health. However, yeast infection symptoms can be so irritating as to affect the day to day life of someone suffering this affliction. Symptoms differ depending on where the infection is located.
The most commonly talked about form of yeast infection is a vaginal infection. Symptoms include itching, discharge, swelling of the vaginal opening, and of course the incredibly irritating itching. Another place where Candida thrives is under the breasts. This can be a painful red colored rash on the skin. It is the combination of skin on skin coupled with the presence of sweat that produces the perfect moist environment for the growth of this fungus.
A yeast infection of the genitalia is not exclusive to women only. Men can also suffer from the same condition, though the symptoms are slightly different. Several round, painful red lesions can be found on the penis of an affected male. It should be noted that uncircumcised males are more prone to getting it because Candida thrives in folded skin areas where moisture is present.
Children who are constantly sucking their thumbs or fingers can develop a yeast infection in the nail bed. This results in tenderness, redness and swelling of the cuticle area. This is, once again, a result of wetness and small skin folds. It is imperative for parents to break this nasty habit as soon as possible for the health of their child.
A well-known form of Candida is thrush. Thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth and throat and can make swallowing very painful. It appears as white colored patches with a red base and can usually be found on the tongue and back of the mouth. It is common for babies to develop thrush by being bottle-fed too often and for too long. Babies who are breast-fed are not immune either. A breast-feeding mother may have an infection and consequently pass that on to the baby.
